Fundación Vasca de Innovación
e Investigación Sanitarias / B+I+O eusko fundazioa [“Basque
Foundation for Health Innovation and Research”] is promoted
by the Basque Government Dept. of Health as an instrument to
enable the health authorities of the Basque Autonomous Community
to promote innovation and research in the Basque health system
as a way of fostering the development and continuous improvement
of the capability of the health service to protect the health
of our people. The Foundation also seeks to provide a framework
for communication and co-operation between the various sectors
involved in health research, development and innovation at
autonomous community, national and international levels.
It works through two institutes:
O+iker (Basque Institute for Health Research)
handles activities of the Foundation most directly linked to
biomedical research. Its goal is to provide a meeting point so
that the Basque health system can develop a standard of research
in line with its standard of health care through the promotion
of and allocation of resources to research, thus facilitating
management and directing research towards the strategic priorities
of the system.
O+berri (Basque Institute for Innovation in
Health) is a platform for permanent innovation within the health
system, based on excellence and a commitment to continual reinvention
of organisational systems, instruments and management systems,
to encouraging debate, prospecting, anticipating trends and changes
in demand, and to disseminating and reinforcing the good name
and prestige of the service and of Basque society as a whole.
